GPAC SWIM SCHOOL
LEVEL 2 CLASSIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Goals:
- Continue to develop water safety skills.
- Begin to develop proper technique for both freestyle and backstroke.
Prerequisites:
In order to be placed or gain advancement into Level 2 swimmers must first demonstrate complete mastery of all skills listed under the Advancement section of Level 1.
Safety Skills Taught:
- Continue with pool safety around the water.
- What to do in case of an emergency.
Water Skills Taught:
- Continue to develop all skills mastered in Level 1.
- Begin to learn side breathing by rolling onto their back while swimming freestyle AND working to keep proper body position.
- Develop proper kicking technique with a kickboard.
- Learn how to kick on back while staying afloat.
- Advanced floating (floating on front/back- to vertical- to floating again).
Advancement:
- Partial completion of NJ State Deep Water Test (treading water for time).
- Streamline and glide for 5 meters off of the wall on stomach.
- Streamline and glide for 5 meters off of the wall on back.
- Roll (in streamline position) back to front and front to back.
- Controlled freestyle arms and legs for 5 meters.
- Controlled backstroke arms and legs for 5 meters.
Swimmers must master ALL exercises in the Advancement category before they can move on to the next Level. Some swimmers may have to stay in this Level for more than one round on lessons in order to accomplish all Advancement tasks and move on to the next Level.
