GPAC Swimming
2013 Summer Training Program
Summer swimming is a necessary step in the continued progression of each swimmer on the team. GPAC coaches always stress the continued development of each swimmer toward their highest personal level. This comes through continual training, emphasis on technique development, and competition. This program is intended for currently registered GPAC swimmers only. Swimmers from other teams must first call 856-580-0912 for registration information. This summer we will swim long course in the morning and short course in the afternoon.
Group Descriptions and Costs:
Pre-National ($400): Swimmers are focused on swimming at the highest level with GPAC. Other teams and activities are prioritized accordingly. Swimmers are focused on becoming the best swimmers they can be and are required to attend regular practice sessions as assigned by the coaching staff. This group is by invitation only. Swimmers must attend team swim meets. The focus meet is Junior Olympics and all swimmers in this group must attend. Coaches: Matt Beckwith
Senior 1 ($350): Swimmers in this group are at least heading into 8th grade in the fall. Swimmers in this group are also training for long course meets this summer. Swimmers should plan to attend at least 6 practices per week to get the full value of the program. Coach: Mark Yankovich
Gold Long Course ($290): Swimmers from Gold 1 & 2 will combine into one group here. The focus is on more endurance based training to prepare for Middle Atlantic Junior Olympics and other long course meets. This is strictly long course training at GCIT in the morning from 8-10am Monday through Friday. Coach: Matt Beckwith
Gold Short Course ($290): This group is for swimmers in Gold 1 & 2 who are looking for additional training throughout the summer but not necessarily long course training. Swimmers in this group can swim long course meets, but it is not a requirement. This group will swim in the evening from 5:30-7:30 pm M-F. This group is not meant for swimmers participating in the long course program to do double practices with GPAC. Coach: Matt Beckwith
Silver ($245): Swimmers will be introduced to more endurance based training and racing with a continued emphasis on proper stroke technique. It is recommended that swimmers attend 4 practices each week. All training will be done in short course yards in the evening at GCIT. Coach: Mark Yankovich
Returning College Swimmers ($500): Swimmers will be placed in groups based on their ability as well as level of commitment. Cost includes USA Swimming registration. Returning college swimmers pay $500 regardless of when they begin, how many practices they attend, how long they are in the water for practice, or what group they practice with. This fee must be paid in full up front before the first day of training.
Stroke Clinics: The stroke clinics are for all team members and are strictly focused on stroke technique. We will hold separate clinics for 10 & unders (5-6pm) and 11 & overs (6-7pm).
A different stroke will be emphasized each week as follows (all clinics are held on Mon, Tues, and Thurs except butterfly which will be Mon, Wed, Thurs):
June 17, 18, 20: Freestyle
June 24, 25, 27: Backstroke
July 8, 10, 11: Butterfly
July 15, 16, 18:Breaststroke
July 22, 23, 25: Starts and Turns
Cost: $50 per week. If you pay for all five clinics up front in full the cost is $235.
Practice Times: Practice groups will remain on their regular days and times until the majority of schools are done for the summer with some adjustment for long course swimming. Then practice times will be adjusted as follows.

PRACTICE ATTENDANCE: The Elite and Jr Elite groups are the only groups with an attendance requirement. The rest of the groups simply suggest as frequent practice attendance as possible.
Payment: Full payment must be received by June 3, 2013.
Team Membership: The GPAC Summer Program is only open to current team members and returning college swimmers. The summer clinics are open to non-team members.
Practice Cancellations/Changes: Practices may be canceled or changed due to facility rentals, holidays, GPAC swimmers and coaches at away meets, or other unforeseen issues. We will do our best to notify you of these changes as quickly as we can.
Assumption of Liability/Medical Release: All participants in the program must sign and return the medical release form found on our team website (www.swimgpac.org) in the “Documents Section”. The forms must be completed in full and returned before swimmers will be able to participate in their first practice or competition. All current team members already have this form on file for the 2012-2013 season and do not need to fill it out again.
USA Swimming Membership: New team members must have a USA Swimming membership to cover swimmer insurance. This is purchased by the team for the swimmer at a cost to the swimmer of $60. This is included in the price of the summer program for college swimmers only. All other new swimmers will have to pay an additional $60 for this. This fee is not necessary for swimmers only participating in the summer clinics.
